Where is Roseville?

Roseville is a small village with, as of 2000, 1,936 people living in the village. Half the city is in Muskingum County and the other half is in Perry County.

Founded in 1840, Roseville, is located ten miles South of Zanesville, Ohio.

From 1892 to 1910 Roseville was the home of Roseville Pottery, among the finest American Pottery Companies. Purchased by George Yong, who became President of the pottery, the Roseville Pottery made a variety of decorative vases and jardinieres with high glazes.

In 1900, Young hired John J Herold as Art Director, and Ross C Purdy, who developed the Rozane Royal line of pottery.

In 1904, Frederick Hurten Rhead became Roseville's Art Director.

In 1905, Roseville developed matte green glazes for its wares.

In 1906, Rhead developed the Della Robbia line, which is generally considered to be Roseville's most artistic endeavor.

Due to the limited quantity and the fact that the pieces were hand made, today it is the most expensive line, with large or rare pieces commanding Roseville Pottery prices in the tens of thousands of dollars.

In 1954 the last of the Pottery Companies were sold out and factories closed.

Now Roseville is still very small with nine Churches, six Restaurants, five of which are Pizza Parlors, one Barber Shop, one Gas Station, two Flower Shops, four Stores, two Cemeteries, and a Local Library.

The mayor of Roseville is Kim Dixon.

The people’s favorite past time is to gather and talk “town gossip” along with fishing. One of the favorite locations for this, gossip, is Jeff’s Barber Shop along with the local Gas stations and the local IGA.

As typical of a small town, half the people are related and everyone knows everyone.
